Building a Closet

Most everyone would say they need more closet space. If you have the skills and the space you can build a closet in no time.

The first step to building a closet is to frame the area with 2 x 4 lumber of your choice. Some like cedar closets to keep away moths or other insects. You will want to build your frame approximately 1/4 inch smaller than the wall height. You can fill the gap later with shims or cover it with trim.

The second step to building a closet is to attach the frame of the new closet to the existing wall studs.

The third step of building a closet is to attach drywall to the frame creating the walls of your new closet. Most people will choose 3/4 inch drywall for this purpose.

The fourth step of building a closet is to attach the doors to the new closet.

The final step is to integrate your new closet into the room decor and add the interior elements such as a hanging rod, shoe racks, a chrome shelving unit, and shelving.

Building a closet can be a fun family weekend project that will increase the efficiency of your home for years to come.
