How to Best Use Microfiber Towels for Cleaning

Microfiber towels can remove dust, dirt, surface residues, smallest particles and even oil or grease using only a tap water. It is lint-free, non-abrasive and hypoallergenic thus making any surface free from scratches and harm.

Microfiber towels are made from a microfiber material. Microfiber is a synthetic fiber measuring below 1.0 denier. Microfiber is used in a diverse variety of products such as clothing, insulation, basketballs, textiles and cleaning products. Microfiber products used for cleaning are usually consist of two fibers, polyester and polymide. The polyester is the fiber for scrubbing and cleaning, while the polymide is for absorbing and quick drying.

Microfiber towels can be used to clean cars, table tops, windows, mirrors, porcelain and other surfaces. It can remove dirt, soap scum, dust, lubricants, solvents, fingerprints, grime sticky residue, moisture, wax, grease, silicon and more. It allows cleaning without the use of chemicals. Unlike ordinary cleaning towels that push or move the dirt from one point to another, microfiber towels actually gets underneath the dirt and collects it from the surface. It stores dirt particles in the towel until it is washed.

Microfiber towels work best if properly handled. To use a brand new microfiber towel to clean a surface, soak it in a basin of cool to lukewarm tap water until saturated. Wring it out by folding the towels in quarters, then roll it up and wring out as much as you can to remove much moisture. Microfiber towel work best when used slightly damp. For best result, you can spray mist the towel with tap water and wipe any smooth surface with the towel open. Use dry microfiber towels for polishing and dusting. For optimum efficiency, keep turning the towel to clean surface with a fresh area. If the towel leaves traces of dirt or moisture behind, it is too wet and too dirty and needs to be washed.

Use of chemicals like cleaners, degreasers, soaps and detergents with a microfiber towel will hinder it in performing at its best. When the towel is too dirty, you can hand wash or machine wash the towel. To hand wash, swish the towel around in a container of cool to lukewarm water. Dunk it in and out of the water several times by holding the edge. If it stops leaving dirt in the water, wring it out and reuse.

If the towel is too dirty, you can machine wash it using warm water using the coolest setting on the dryer. Use liquid soap not the powdery because some don’t dissolve and can be picked up by microfiber. Always wash microfiber towels separately, never use bleach and fabric softeners. Most importantly, do not iron it, exposure to high temperature the fibers will melt.

Knowing how to use and care for your microfiber towel allows you to clean surfaces without using chemicals, thus contributing to a cleaner environment.
